Installing Custom Cars

Post by Rangers05fan »

Hey everyone,

I am part of a gaming community called WGO. We recently got back into playing Nascar Heat and we wanted to use our own custom car skins. I've modded this game a while back, but can't seem to remember how to go about doing it. If someone could post a reference or tutorial on how to install these along with the files that are needed. That would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You need to convert your paint file to a 24 bit uncompressed .tga file, then use winrestools wizard to convert them to a tex file. Be sure to name your .tga file "carxxx.tga" ,xxx being your car number. Place that tex file in your mod folder of choice and off you go. You will need to make a new drivers.txt entry for your car. That can be opened in notepad.

As for files and programs, you will need some sort of paint program, paintshop pro, photoshop, or the free gimp program. Winrestoolswizard can be found at the ModSquad, in their downloads section.

Hope this helps

Another question. Is there a way to edit the in-game audio that plays during the main screen?

And Is there anyway to change these pictures to fit another car. So i can make custom screens for my clan.

Also, i noticed that bover, when he shows off new cars that he makes. They are 3d models of the cars, i was wondering how he got those models. Thanks

How'd I get the car models? I made them, Look at the image on the top right of the screen when you first open the mod, then look at my sig at the bottom of this post.... he he

for your race image and sound question.... Go to Speedsims, and read their tutorials. it'll give you some insight. It's pretty technical and a long explanation, so I'll direct you there instead of typing a book.

About your clan... How many people are you talking about? Reason I ask is because there's a lot more out there other than my COT mod which is way simplified to facilitate large online fields (25+ drivers). If you're just talking a couple-few guys, you may be interested in the really great road racing mods speedsims has, or the Platinum Series that the ModSquad has, featuring all three nascar series in one deal.

for the original heat car, how I got that is a program called Zmod which a lot of people use to make mods for Nascar heat. It's available for free.

As far as that COT car, I am the one who made that 3d model go into heat. That car was originally made by a guy named Dan Nisbet. He made it for another racing game. He released his model for general public use, I used the shell from that car, made a new interior, new windows, new splitter, new wing, new roll cage, new camera, etc and put it into nascar heat the same way every other mod is made.

As far as how to do these thnings yourself, just read up at those links I provided in my first reply. It's a lot of reading, and pretty involved stuff. I never made myself custom screens for my custom cars. It's just too much trouble. I just leave the fun for on the track.

With a 6 member group, you're more than welcome to use my mod if you want to, but I just wanted to let you know there is also a lot of options out there, from other nascar mods, dirt racing mods, road racing mods etc. Mine is pretty simplified to benifit a 25-30 car field. It's lacks a lot of eye candy that other mods have.
