but i cant get it to run with my new vista machine.

ef, make sure when you install anything, and everything, you right click first and "run as administrator".. also, refer to the topic "transferring to a new pc" topic in this technical help forum..

i set it to run as administrator and it worked.

however, i cannot get into the "controls" section to set my wheel and pedals up. i get this weird screen where the screen is just flashing like crazy with a big white box in the center.

any chance i can setup my controls through the options file? that might be too hard....hahaha

I also need help with a couple of things if you dont mind

1. the no-cd thingy. where to find it? and how do i install it?

2. what patch? i have no short term memory so i dont remember. it says 1.5 now. i think it was 1.72 after that. and then, hmmmm 1.9 2.0 2.something? i cant remember. someone help me plz. do i have to patch one at a time?

3. mods. specifically the nhrl cup mod (my fav). is there a new one or anything? i will probably wait to do that last. i might even be high tech enough to figure it out myself after i get past 1 and 2.

*i will pm lepage to get the sticky track files and pole patch.

is there anything else i am missing? did someone re-create IRF?

update.....

ok, i already screwed things up

i found the no-cd thing at raceline central and followed these instructions..

If you are using the Nascar Heat_iso and don't want to us the cd to play the game here are the files to fix it.

First lets make sure your Nascar Heat game is in the right directory.
Like this-->Program Files\Hasbro Interactive\NASCAR Heat

There are 4 files in this zip that make the game work without the cd.
autorun.inf
binkw32.dll
drivers.dat
NHeat.exe

Put your Nascar Heat.exe file in a temp folder to save it.
In the iso game there should be a run folder.
In that run folder is a Data folder.
Take all the files from the Data folder and put them in the run folder.
You don't need to delete the Data folder.
OK i just had someone test this and we had a prob.
Its easy to fix,If you don't have a run folder in the NASCAR Heat folder then just rename the Data folder to run.

Put the autorun.inf file in the NASCAR Heat folder.
Put the binkw32.dll in the run folder.
Put the drivers.dat file in the run folder.
Put the NHeat.exe in the NASCAR Heat folder.

This should do the job,lets try it and see if the game starts.

so i followed the instructions and now i cant run the game with or without the cd

i click on the desktop shortcut...no different than before. still running as admin

i get the splash screen pop up no problems.

i click on "play" and get a pop up that the game is "not designed for windows 2000". ok, so i chuckle a bit and wonder how stupid that message is, but no prob, i remember getting that message with regular heat anyway.

so i click on continue and get a pop up that i have never seen before.

(c:program files(x86)\Hasbro Interactive\Nascar Heat\Run\Race.bin
-->c:users\mark\AppData\Local\Temp\heat.bin)"

so now what? ugggggggggg

should i have patched 1st? btw, i did look at the league rules and see the patch needed is 1.80. great, but i dont remember if i have to do other patches in order.

so maybe that is my problem? help

The main thing is the 1.1 patch. It may be called 1.1e. Once you do that patch, you go straight to 1.80

As far as heat and vista. Send a PM to lepage. Vista does things really wierd. I haven't messed with it yet. I know lepage is running it on Vista. I don't know who else is.

There are no updates to the NHRL cup mod. Just download it from the league downloads section. (If I ever get around to doing an update, it'll just purely be an optional graphical update. It'll fix things like all 4 car models currently haveing "Dodge" painted on their valve covers, etc. Ha how many of you guys noticed that? You gotta be having a bad day to see your engine anyway).

if my game says it has 1.5 patch, do i still need 1.1? anyone ever get a brand new cd patched to 1.5? that seems odd to me.

well even though my game said i was patched to 1.5, i went ahead and d/l 1.1 patch, then i d/l the 1.80 patch and pooof, i can run the game without the cd. so it looks like that problem is solved

i still cannot drive yet because when i hit the button for controls, the screen goes screwy. its a big garbled mess.

hopefully someone can help me fix that and i can move on to downloading the nhrl mod.

You could prob set it up thru the options.cfg file. You would need to know the axis names, such as axis x, axis y, button z, etc..... I'm still searchin, I know I've seen it.

ef, do you have your anti-aliasing turned way up? i run mine on vista and i could not go into my control screen either without it being black, and flickering.. once i turned my anti-aliasing off i was able to access that screen again.. hopefully that helps you..

Smoothing - I'm already a smooth operator, but do i check it anyway? i cant remember

oh yea, what about IRF? is that thing reborn? do i need to download anything?

I'm trying to install heat on vista. I have the game loaded with all the patches can play the game normally. When i click on the nbs or cot icon it loads the correct splash screen, but then the nascar heat folder pops up in the background. The game is basically froze at the splash screen, my guess is the target/or start in with all this regular c drive, and the admins virtual folder. I've been talking to Lepage he has helped so far which everything worked, I'm just trying to jump the gun on lepage and see if anybody else can help. Any ideas? :

Ummmm my advice was simply going to be to talk to Lepage, lol.

Not to mention, Efgordon has it fresh in his mind.

I am almost 100% sure your problem is in the whole vista 'virtual user path' bullshit. (kinda like the funny paths efgordon was quoting with his stuff.... that shit throws a monkey wrench at older games and programs...

I'd double check the run as administrator and the compatibility options. again,.... get with lepage lol.

I have the same control options problem. Question- my anti alisasing has 4 options, gamma correction, mode, setting and transparency. Do i need to turn all theses off or what?
