Very thorough, Duster! Thank you very much!!! Many of us wanted to help guys out who were having problems, but without having been through it ourselves (Still on XP here), we didn't know how to do it. Very straightforward and easy to understand, with pics!

Bravo!

Thanks Duster for posting this guide......but, for whatever reason, the game installs into both Programs and Programs(X86) and I think that's where my issues are with the ModInstaller.......It installs, but doesn't pickup any of the mods......so I have uninstalled and deleted all folders and wanna start all over, but I'm just not sure what procedure to follow...I have read so many ideas I'm totally confused what steps to follow.....any help??

I just replied to you email, sorry it took so long, but this is what I suggest for you...

First, read through this guide before you do anything and keep in mind the of all of these while installing and running the game...
http://www.heatfinder.net/guides.php?c=nhwv7i

Second install the game...
CD - http://www.heatfinder.net/guides.php?c=nhscd
Essentials Download - http://www.heatfinder.net/guides.php?c=nhse

Next, be sure you use this guide as described in the install guides...
http://www.heatfinder.net/guides.php?c=nhwpb

Finally install all the mods and tracks you like keeping in mind to run everything as administrator and installing to the proper folder based on your OS as descried in the first guide...

You dont "need" ml2 the one included is enough for starting basic mods.

OK...so the way everything is set right now, I should be able to install any mod, but mod launcher readme says I must also install a track to work....and I think this is where things get screwed up.....the installer sends the mod to programs and not programs(x86) where Heat is installed and also a desktop icon is placed.....this happens with the truck mod....maybe I should try a different mod????.....do mods not have tracks?

According to Bover907 in the Anyone Help Me thread posted in this Technical Support section....he says that the tracks should be in the run folder....that if I patched correctly I should only have a run folder and no data folder. I have a data folder with the tracks in there and a run folder with no tracks in it. Yet the original game says patched to v. 1.80........is this why I have an issue try to install the mods???

You should not have a data folder, are you installing via cd? If so you need to run the 1.1e patch before the 1.80 patch, I may also suggest the CT patch by Timerider which often helps with the data folder issue... http://www.heatfinder.net/downloads/ctpatch180.exe

When you download something like a mod to the desktop, you can just create a folder in the Nascar Heat folder and drop in in there. A reinstall is completely unnecessary.

I don't give a shit what anyone says, but downloading 32 bit program directly to the x86 folder is a bit risky with this stupid admin permissions shit. I download all 32 bit programs to the desktop and then manually create my own paths and simply drag and drop. I've had G2 mods and mod files completely lock up on me and not appear in my folder.

Too late...did a reinstall and have been able to get to V 1.1e, but the patch to go to V.1.80 keeps creating a Hasbro in programs and not going to X86 folder.....so stuck at that.......grrrrrrr

How do you get the ctpatch1.80 to go to the programs(x86) heat already created....it goes to program files and creates another heat folder.

When you install the 1.80 patch, and it makes that new hasbro folder with the new heat folder copy/overwrite those files into the correct heat folder. Namely patch.bin and nheat.exe. I think that may do it.
