XP recovery question

Post by Reef »

My inlaws pc has taken a crap, after searching thru their pc, I have found no recovery partition nor do they have any disks. Is it possible to copy the recovery partition out of my old xp pc and place it on theirs to recover? Is there anything I can do?

I am not sure about the recovery portion, but I know you can install using your XP disk and out in their XP owner numbers. Thats what I do when mine craps out. It's a pain but I start over from a freshly reformatted HD. Hope this helps.

No that would be a bad idea to copy the partition across different pc's unless they are the same make/model.

Do you have any Windows XP disk?
You can reinstall Windows XP using any xp disk as long as you enter the key that belongs to the pc when activating it.
