setup changes

Does anyone have any idea why ...when i change to a different setup or make changes ....i try it and come back to garage and its back to the original set i started with ...running windows 7 thank you

2.Does that happen at all tracks , or just one particular track?
2.Are u talking about when u are in the server, running online,or when using the "test" button in the Garage offline ,,,,or both?
3.Are u using a username with "administrator capabilities"?

Right, you should be the admin on your computer, but the biggest thing to remember when running something old such as heat with Vista or newer, is you have to set it to "run as administrator" so that you'll have windows let the program run like it's supposed to.

When microsoft made windows Vista (and windows7) they decided that the average person was 'too stupid' to know how the handle and manage files and know where they should go, so they figured they'd take all that out of your hands and put all the 'Kyle' files in the 'kyle' spot automatically. So if kyle types a word document, it goes into the 'kyle' space on the pc. Vista/7 does that with everything. Heat wants eveything to go into the 'Nascar Heat' space but the problem is that windows7 makes a 'kyle's nascar heat space' in which it saves your setups in a 'kyle' spot. (same with replays and options files, and everything else).

Problem is that nascar heat can't get to the kyle space, it just looks in the 'nascar heat' space. When you select 'run as administrator' you are telling windows not to do that, and let you/heat manage itself.

Hope that clears that up in laymans terms for anyone having those problems. Bottom line is if you have windows vista or windows7, you have to run heat's install as an administrator, (same with installing any mods) and you have to always run heat in win98 compatibility mode and run as an administrator.

Note: I think you want to use win98 compatiblility mode, and not winxp sp2 mode. Reef had much sucess with his installation under 7 and I'm sure he can steer you in the right direction.

I think your best bet is to send reef a pm and ask him the best way to set it up. So far Reef is the only person I know of who setup up heat on windows7 without a single hitch. Lepage would probably also be able to steer you in the right direction, but he uses Vista.

My direct knowledge of Vista and 7 are solely from setting up my kid's laptops for them. That's it and I haven't actually messed with heat on those operating systems myself.

There are some rules to follow when installing heat or running heat on a windows 7 machine...

1) Install everything to C:\Program Files (x86)\Hasbro Interactive\NASCAR Heat\"

2) Run all of the installs by right clicking on the file and selecting "Run As Administrator"

3) Run NASCAR Heat as the administrator at all times, this will solve your garage issue as well.
a- (Right Click) on NHeat.exe or NASCAR Heat.exe and select (Properties)
b- Select the (Compatibility) tab
c- Click the (Change settings for all users) button
d- Place a check mark next to (Run this program as an administrator)
e- Click (Apply) then (OK)

You should be good at this point!

I had to run heat in Windows 2000 compatibility mode as administrator. That made it possible to save replays completely and as far as files changing and not saving, that i dont know about. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that built my pc and and installed windows 7 manually, not a factory install. Dunno there.

the sco files are in the records folder, I really don't know why its doing that. I wonder if it may be a ghost car issue. Try deleting the .gcf files or if you use mod launcher, disable the gcf's from there. Also if that dont work, try clearing your records.
